The Blue Mountains is a town in Grey County, located on the north-eastern border of Grey County, near Georgian Bay. The Town of the Blue Mountains consists of several small communities including Thornbury, Clarksburg, and Ravenna and is home to Blue Mountain ski resort. I believe most people know Blue Mountain for its mountains and popular during apple season in the autumn. You don’t have to ski to visit Blue Mountain, you can stroll through Blue Mountain Village and enjoy one of the cafes or restaurants located in the village. It is located Located 10 minutes from Thornbury and The Blue Mountain Village hosts events throughout the year and
Blue Mountain Winter Activities
I know that when anyone mentions Blue Mountain the first thing that comes to mind is skiing. Blue Mountain is a wonderful ski destination but there is so much more to do than just ski. I was able to return to Blue Mountain for a magical weekend to experience the Blumintion Dream Trail along with the fireworks. Here is a guide to some wonderful things to add to the itinerary whether you are visiting for a day or a weekend these winter activities will take you on and off the slopes.
Blumination Dream Trail
There are 10 stops for you to discover on the Blumination Dream Trail. This FREE one-kilometer, illuminated winter stroll through the Village features more than a million lights between the actual Blumination Trail and the Christmas trees throughout the village. The Blumination Dream Trail is on from 5-10pm until January 6th.
The Blumination Dream Trail consists of 10 stops. The first stop starts at the visitor information hut (next to Camino Taco)
- Field of Dreams – Experience hundreds of twinkling lights in the field of dreams as they set the mood for the rest of the walk and light up a path on the snow just to the left & beyond the visitor information center
- A Moment with You – Step inside the gazebo as the colourful lights change and dance around you.
- Star Street – Follow the little balls of light down the path of lights as they dance around your feet.
- Lucid Memories – Are they icicles or crystals? Walk amongst these tall bright and colourful lights as they change colours.
- Sweet Dreams Await – Wave your hand over the sensor and mini trees all begin changing colour right before your eyes.
- Mind Warp – Walk through the two colourful rainbows.
- Frozen in Time – As you come out of the mind warp you’ll find the perfect bench amongst the icicles for another great photo opportunity.
- Blue Reflections – Photo opportunity with the BLUE sign as it changes colours and overlooks the Dream Trail and Blue Mountain ski hill.
- Light So Bright – A life-sized, fully functional digital LiteBrite. Even as an adult, you can’t help but push the buttons to change the colours and create your own picture
- Illuminated Dreams – Watch as the lights on the tree dance to 4 different songs. We are encouraging visitors to send out a tweet about it using the hashtag #Blumination and they will see their twitter handle light up the screen beside the tree.
Illuminated Dreams Light Show
The Dream Trail ends in the Events Plaza with incredible light shows every evening during Blumination at 6 pm, 7 pm, 8 pm and 9 pm! Light Show.
Enjoy the Magical Fireworks
The day is not complete without catching the fireworks. The fireworks are scheduled on Saturday’s at 8 pm and runs until January 6.
Are You Naughty or Nice?
During the holiday season, make sure to visit with Santa and give him your Christmas wish list. Hopefully, you’re not on Santa’s naughty list. Don’t forget to get your free professional photo with Santa Saturday afternoons right next to the Firehall Pizza.
Horse and Wagon Ride (Next to MJ’s Irish Pub)
Grab a hot chocolate and sit back and enjoy the free Horse and Wagon Ride offered on weekends from 12 pm – 4 pm until January 6.
Dashing Through the Snow
Sit back, relax and enjoy your scenic sleigh ride along the top of the mountain at Valley Ridge Farms. Blankets and a warm drink are provided. The sleigh ride is offered daily for a fee.

Ride the Ridge Runner
The Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster is 1 km of track that tours the terrain or you can turn it into a thrill ride at speeds up to 42 KM/H. The Ridge Runner is a great ride for all ages. The great thing is that you decide how fast or slow you want to go.
Hit the Slopes
Although I don’t ski, I thought it would be fun to try a ski lesson on my last trip to Blue Mountain. I’m kind of a professional now – just kidding. If you’re itching to try your hand at skiing then these lessons you will learn the basics and even get the opportunity to ride the magic carpet and go down a mini hill.
IWA Spa, Blue Mountain Village
After having our feet in boots all day, nothing is better than sitting back and enjoying a signature pedicure and a glass of prosecco. Make sure to book ahead of time as they can get booked up quickly. They also offer other spa services such as massages.
Blue Mountain Food
Sunset Grill for Breakfast
Head to Sunset Grill in the Village for breakfast. They have a wonderful menu with some delicious breakfast choices everything from bacon and eggs, omelets, egg sandwiches and I can’t forget the fluffy blueberry pancakes.
Head to Thornbury Cider for Tastings
90 King Street East, Thornbury, N0H 2P0
This is a perfect stop in the Town of the Blue Mountains before heading over to Blue Mountain Village. Tour the newest Ciderhouse in Thornbury and sample some of their tasty varieties of cider. With Grey County producing 23% of Ontario’s apples, it is understandable that the region has become a bit of a hub for cideries. My favorite was the blueberry.
Grab a Maple Taffy from the tent in the Events Plaza and enjoy some of the winter activities in the village. You have until 4 pm to enjoy:
162 Jozo Weider Blvd, The Blue Mountains
Firehall Pizza is great restaurant located in the Village. Try the Old Faithful burger and make sure to order the sweet potato fries or opt for one of their pizzas like the Sexy Texy Mexy. Wash it all down with their new Winter Sangria, a tribute to Grey County’s Apple Pie Trail and made with local apple cider pressed by Goldsmith’s Orchard Market.
Royal Majesty Espresso Bar and Bakery
190 Jozo Weider Blvd #9, The Blue Mountains
Make sure to grab an afternoon pick me up that will keep you warm as well. This Smore’s coffee will have you licking the cup. They also have a great selection of sandwiches and delicious donuts.
Try the Infamous Beaver Tails
170 Jozo Weider Blvd, The Blue Mountains
No visit to Blue Mountain is complete without tasting the infamous Beaver Tails. My personal favorite is the hazelnut spread but the sugar and cinnamon seemed to be just as popular.
Copper Blues Bar and Grill
156 Jozo Weider Blvd, The Blue Mountains
Copper Blues Bar and Grill is located in the heart of the village, you will be able to a savor dinner and take in all the sights of the Village from a patio window. I would highly recommend the Sea Bass with key lime rub, basmati rice, and seasonal vegetables. If you have room for dessert, the flourless chocolate cake is a hit and might have you licking the plate. Check for reservations here.
Where to Stay in Blue Mountain
Grand Georgian Blue Mountain
156 Jozo Weider Blvd., Blue Mountains
The Grand Georgian is located in the middle of the Village at Blue and is fashioned after a historic railway hotel.

Packing Tips for your Blue Mountain Getaway in the Winter
If you want to enjoy your time on our Blue Mountain getaway during the winter I would highly recommend dressing appropriately. As you will likely be spending most of the day outdoors, dressing in layers is recommended. I would recommend packing or wearing the following items:
- Winter coat
- Thermal shirt
- Thermal leggings
- Snowpants/ Ski pants
- Waterproof winter boots
- Thermal socks
- Hot Hands warmers to put in your gloves
- A portable phone charger as your phone may lose its charge in the cold
