There are always unexpected ailments when traveling and there is an essential oil to help. Essential oils for travel are great for bloating, anxiety, bug bites, headache, trouble sleeping and so much more. I make sure to carry a few of them in my essential oils carrying case.
I have my doTERRA essential oils medicine cabinet that we use on a daily basis around the house for cleaning, diffusing and ailments. Here is a list of my top must have essential oils for travel that I use. These are some of my airplane essentials. Depending on where I am traveling and if I have space in my suitcase, I will often also pack my essential oil travel diffuser as well. I am addicted to my diffuser. It is on the minute I enter the house with my favorite essential oil blend.

Peppermint Essential Oils for Travel
Peppermint essential oil is one of the most used oils in our house. It is great for any digestive disturbances. You can either apply it topically by rubbing a drop on your stomach or you can add one drop to the water and ingest it internally. It is also a great replacement for peppermint tea. Just add 1-2 drops to hot water in a ceramic cup (don’t use plastic). You can also use peppermint essential oil on your temples and back of your neck to help soothe a headache. If I need a pick me up, I will add one drop of peppermint essential oil to my hands and rub them together and inhale – an instant pick me up! I also love the doTERRA peppermint beadlets. They are small beadlets with one drop of peppermint essential oil in it. I love using these to freshen up my breath. This is a must oil I pack in my essential oil case.
doTERRA On Guard Essential Oil
This is one of my favorite doTERRA essential oil blends. This oil blend is antibacterial and antiviral. We always use this blend when we feel like we are coming down with a cold for immune support.
On Guard essential oil is great for diffusing and it also makes a wonderful tea. Simply add 1 – 2 drops to hot water. I also use the On Guard hand sanitizer spray – think germs especially on an airplane. I will often spray down the food tray on an airplane and wipe it down before using it.
It also makes a great cleaning product. Just add some drops to some water in a spray bottle as a natural surface cleaner. On Guard essential oil also comes in beadlets. This isn’t an oil, but I always bring this hand sanitizer with me when I’m traveling – especially on planes. The main ingredient is On Guard essential oil, which is our antibacterial/antiviral blend. This cleans your hands without drying out your skin, and it smells amazing!

Mosquitos love me so this is a must oil when traveling. This outdoor essential oil blend will help protect against any insects. I always pack this blend if I am traveling to the Caribbean or anywhere I know I will get eaten alive by mosquitos.

Lavender Essential Oil
This is another popular essential oils for travel and used a lot in my house. Lavender essential oil is the number one oil for a restful sleep. You can either diffuse it if you packed your diffuser or put a drop on your pillow. It is also great to apply to the bottom of your feet before bed as this helps promote relaxation. The best oil to help you get over jetlag.
Lavender is also great for any skin irritations such as burns, cuts, bruises and event zits. Overall lavender essential oil is very calming and can even be used for anxiety.
doTERRA DigestZen Essential Oils for Travel
DigestZen is my go-to for any digestive discomforts, especially when traveling. I’m always trying new foods when traveling and never know if something might cause bloating, diarrhea, nausea or gas.
You can apply it topically by rubbing a drop or two to your stomach. You can also ingest it internally by adding a few drops to warm water and it also tastes great. This is also great for children to help with any stomach issues. Just rub a few drops on their tummies.
Frankincense Essential Oil
This is not your regular household essential oil but it is one of my favorites. It is a bit pricey but a little goes a long way. Frankincense is a grounding essential oil and helps keep me calm especially when traveling. I take a drop under my tongue or apply it to the bottom of my feet or my hands.
Frankincense essential oil is also a great oil for the skin. It is great for blemishes and even anti-aging.
Lemon Essential Oils for Travel
Lemon is one of the most used essential oils in our household. We use it in a diffuser and even use it in household cleaning. It is great to add in warm water and apple cider vinegar (ACV) in the morning to help kickstart your digestion.

Important note: don’t use any citrus essential oil if you will be out in the sun. Don’t apply lemon essential oil to open skin.
Melaleuca (Tea Tree Oil)
Tea Tree oil is great for disinfecting cuts and scrapes and a great spot treatment for blemishes. Make sure to dilute tea tree essential oil if applying it to a blemish as it can burn your skin, it is extremely powerful. It is also great to disinfect any area. Oregano Essential Oil
Oregano essential oil is my go-to oil when I feel when I am coming down with something. I will add one drop to some water or a gel capsule and take it internally. It is antimicrobial, antiviral, and it has antifungal properties. This oil has often helped me get over a cold and has even helped prevent one.
