Coconut Oil and Weight Loss



First let me say……..I LOVE anything coconut.  I use the Artisana brand Raw Coconut Oil.

Coconut oil is wonderful for a myriad of things, one being weight loss when taken in moderation. Try some in your green tea in the morning for a super boost of your metabolism. (I just put some coconut oil in my tea this morning… was awesome!)  You can also add it to your smoothies. I have seen a lot of Vegan desserts with coconut oil.  It’s also great straight up on a spoon right out of the jar…. 🙂

Coconut oil is an abundant source of “MCT’s” — medium-chain fatty acids. Research has found that MCT’s increase the metabolic rate by up to 48 percent and for up to 24 hours. This is especially helpful for people who have damaged their metabolism by dieting or stress. (oooh this is so me!!)

Coconut oil can supply the body with energy similar to blood glucose, but without having a negative impact on blood sugar and insulin levels. Including coconut oil before or during a meal also lowers the glycemic impact of what you’re eating, which prevents blood sugar highs and lows, which can be very detrimental to weight loss.

Coconut oil contains lauric acid and caprylic acid which protect against one of the hidden causes behind weight gain: candida. With an overgrowth of candida, weight loss can be almost impossible.

There are many, many other benefits as well but please remember it is a fat so you don’t want to overdo it.  Obviously it depends on your calorie needs.  I usually have 1-2 teaspoons a day of coconut oil.

Coconut oil is used very often at my home for cooking but I've never heard of putting it in tea. I have to try this with my evening cup tonight :)

I love cooling with it. Olive oil smokes at hight heat but coconut oil doesn't and makes everything taste yummy :) I loved it in my tea

I keep hearing good and bad things about coconut oil. It is confusing me! I enjoy putting it straight on my skin as a lotion. Best lotion ever! Maybe I will start adding more of this into my diet again. It tastes great!

I only use about 2 teaspoons- it is far so you don't want to overdose in it :) coconut has always been controversial but I love it! Love it on my face as well
