My husband and I didn’t have any big travel plans for the summer so we thought we would explore different locations in Ontario. A couple of weeks ago we had a getaway to Scandinave Spa and a family weekend getaway to Muskoka . We wanted to explore other cities in Ontario and decided to venture off to London, Ontario. London is a city in southwestern Ontario, just north of Lake Erie and the U.S. border. The city centre features numerous parks and greenways along the Thames River. We decided to stay at the Idlewyld Inn & Spa, London’s premier historic inn located in the heart of London’s historic “Old South” neighbourhood.
Idlewyld Inn & Spa Getaway
The Idlewyld mansion was built in 1878 as a private home for Charles Smith Hyman. Many of the mansion’s original Victorian features survive to this day, including stunning woodwork, ornate fireplaces, shuttered windows, and the famous Lincrusta-Walton wall paper.
Although this is a small inn it had all the comforts of a larger hotel but with the personalized, intimate feeling. Each of their 21 newly-renovated guest rooms has its own unique character, with some featuring Victorian fireplaces, beautiful wooden trim, and private balconies.
This is a quaint boutique inn with a terrific restaurant and spa. We were greeted warmly at the reception and were checked in in no time.

Idlewyld Inn & Spa Restaurant
When we visit a new destination we usually like to venture off and eat outside of the hotel but not this time. This is a restaurant where you will be treated to a wonderful culinary experience in the elegance of a Victorian Mansion. It has that old world feel with modern menu choices. The restaurant has a fairly large dining area as well as al fresco dining on the front porch or outback in the hidden courtyard. It was a beautiful evening so we decided to enjoy our dinner on the front porch.

The Spa at Idlewyld offers a relaxing retreat from city life and is open to Inn Guests and the General Public. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the opportunity to visit the spa during our visit but we will definitely be returning for a couples massage.
They offer Certified Estheticians and Registered Massage Therapists and they also feature premium spa products.
The Idlewyld Inn & Spa is the perfect getaway for that old world charm set in the picturesque city of London that makes for the perfect romantic getaway retreat or staycation. Make sure to visit the Western Fair Farmers Market in London if you visit over the weekend.
