This delicious and frothy bulletproof coffee is a must at my house in the mornings! It is so creamy, it feels like I am drinking a latte.
What is Bulletproof Coffe
This butter coffee is a frothy fat-based coffee that looks and tastes like a latte without the milk and is great for intermittent fasting and keto diets.
Bulletproof coffee is basically coffee and fat. The usual fats used are MCT oil and unsalted butter.
This butter coffee won’t break your fast during intermittent fasting as there is no protein or carbs. Fat will not impact your blood sugar levels.
Bulletproof Coffee Benefits
Dave Asprey invented Bulletproof Coffee. He brought this coffee to fame. Dave Asprey carries an entire line of Bulletproof coffee products ranging from coffee beans that are toxin-free. If you are sensitive to mold, then you may want to try this coffee brand; otherwise, any coffee will do.
- Bulletproof coffee will give you a steadier boost of energy.
- The healthy fats will help stop food cravings.
- You should have more energy, especially when intermittent fasting.
- A more focused mind.
Intermittent Fasting With Bulletproof Coffee
Technically intermittent fasting means not consuming any food or drink with calories. According to Dave Asprey at Bulletproof, he indicates that “If you only consume fat (no protein or carbs) during your fast, you won’t interrupt autophagy. You’ll also stay in the fat-burning state of ketosis.” Black coffee and intermittent fasting is the norm but Bulletproof coffee and intermittent fasting is a better combination. It will help keep you satiated until your next meal and it tastes a lot better.
Butter coffee adds calories, but in the form of fat. Coffee and intermittent fasting is a great combination just ditch the sugar and carbohydrates.
Bulletproof Coffee Recipe

Bulletproof Coffee Ingredients
Makes: 1 Cup
- One cup of Black Coffee
- One teaspoon of MCT oil
- 1-2 teaspoons of Grass-Fed Ghee or grass-fed unsalted butter
If you are using ghee then expect a nutty taste. If you prefer a milder tasting coffee then add grass-fed unsalted butter. Grass-fed butter has more nutrients than regular butter. If you can’t get your hands on grass-fed butter then regular butter will do. The original recipe calls for 1-2 Tablespoons or grass-fed butter. I would recommend starting with 1-2 teaspoons to see how your body reacts to drinking butter and MCT oil. If you are counting calories then you should know that a tablespoon of butter has approximately 100 calories this is why I use 1 teaspoon instead.
How to Make Bulletproof Coffee Keto
- Brew 1 cup (8-12 ounces) of coffee
- Add one teaspoon MCT Oil.
- Add 1-2 teaspoons of grass-fed, unsalted butter or ghee. (this is what makes the coffee creamy – don’t use salted butter)
- Mix it all in a blender for 20-30 seconds until it is foamy and frothy like a latte.
If you have never used MCT oil before, then I would suggest starting with a small amount. Too much MCT oil can cause stomach upset and cause you to run to the bathroom. Starting with 1 teaspoon should be fine. If you have a sensitive stomach, then start with ¼ teaspoon then up to ½ teaspoon until your body adjusts.
You can add additional flavors to your butter coffee, although I find it is delicious without any other additions.
- Stevia – You can add stevia if you need your coffee to be sweet
- Cinnamon – Great for balancing blood sugar
- Cayenne – for a little extra kick! Great paired with cacao and cinnamon
- Cocoa powder – for a chocolate flavour
- Vanilla extract – a classic flavor enhancer for coffee!
Bulletproof Tea
You can also bulletproof your tea. You can use Matcha green tea instead of coffee or your tea of choice.

Is the Bulletproof Coffee Recipe Vegan?
If you make your Bulletproof coffee with butter, then it is not vegan, but you can omit the butter and just use MCT oil or coconut butter, making it vegan.
Bulletproof Coffee Conclusion
After trying the bulletproof coffee, you may not go back to your regular coffee. I especially love it when I am intermittent fasting as it gives me that little bit of boost in energy without the crash. So, how do you take your coffee?
