- Get Outside
I know you’re probably wondering what this has to do with better sleep but being exposed to natural light during the day helps you sleep better at night. I always find that I sleep better when exposed to the sun. The sun actually helps your body produce melatonin.
Hey, I know it’s cold in the winter, and getting outside may not be ideal. Try getting exposure to natural light in your home. When you wake up in the morning, open your curtains or blinds and expose your eyes to natural light. This tells your body to wake up.

2. Wear Blue Light Blocking Glasses at Night
Did you know that the blue light from your computer and mobile phone can cause sleep disturbances? The blue light from your phone or computer is harmful to your eyes and considering that we are all pretty much glued to our phones, this is not a good thing.
There are studies that the blue light that is emitted by cell phones disrupts your sleep. The blue light throws off our circadian rhythm, which is our biological clock telling the body to produce melatonin. The light suppresses the release of melatonin, therefore, disrupting your circadian rhythm and sleep. These are my favourite blue light-blocking glasses.

3. Wear an Eye Mask
To fall asleep faster and to get a good night’s sleep, you need to sleep in a dark room. Sometimes this is not possible so I would highly recommend using a sleep eye mask. This has been a game-changer for me to help me fall asleep faster and stay asleep.

4. Drink Some Tea Before Bed
Try drinking a calming Reishi calm elixir before bed. Reishi can support healthy sleep. You can also try a sleepy time tea.

5. Take A Magnesium Supplement for Relaxation
If you are wound up like me, then you might want to try taking a Magnesium supplement to help you relax. My favourite form of Magnesium is Magnesium Glycinate.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, “
Can taking magnesium help you get the rest you crave? Some studies have found that magnesium supplements can make it easier to fall asleep, improve sleep quality and reduce symptoms of restless legs syndrome.”
Talk to your doctor before adding them to your routine. The two best Magnesium supplements for relaxation are Magnesium Glycinate and Magnesium Citrate.

6. Try Meditation to Relax
I know what you’re thinking, I can’t meditate. I hear you and I felt the same way until I found something that worked for me.
You can use an app like Calm App, you can use the free version of Headspace. I also enjoy Yoga Nidra, which isn’t really yoga but a form of meditation.
I have also enjoyed meditating on my bed of nails. It looks a bit crazy, but it helps me to relax.

7. Diffuse Essential Oils
Essential oils are great for so many things, including sleep. If you have a nebulizer, try diffusing lavender before you go to sleep.
You can also try placing 2-3 drops of lavender oil in the palms of your hands, rubbing your hands together then bringing your cupped hands to your nose and inhaling.
Another favorite essential oil blend for the evening that I love is called Balance. It has such a soothing scent. I use it in my diffuser nightly.

8. Take Melatonin
Did you know that your cell phone or computer could be disrupting your body’s ability to make melatonin? Try taking a melatonin supplement 30 – 45 minutes before you want to go to sleep. Use s sublingual melatonin between 1 – 3 mg.
These melatonin gummies have an addition of calming properties like l-theanine, chamomile, and lemon balm. Melatonin is especially helpful when traveling across different time zones.
Check with your doctor before taking any supplements.

9. Take a Warm Bath or Shower
Seems obvious right? A warm bath or shower can certainly help you to relax and fall asleep faster. Try adding some Epson salts and add some drops of lavender essential oil.

10. Keep Cell Phone on Airplane Mode
Did you know that the EMFs from your phone can disrupt your sleep? If you are like me, I use my cell phone as an alarm clock so it is right beside me on my night table.
Most say not to place your cell phone in your bedroom when sleeping, but let’s be real, that is probably not going to happen. The simplest solution is to place it on airplane mode.
Falling Asleep Faster Conclusion
I hope that some of these tips will help you get a good night’s sleep. There is nothing worse than not being able to sleep or fall asleep. I know for myself, if I don’t get a good night’s sleep, I am not a happy camper.
