The Best Things to Do in Scottsdale for Nature Lovers
Hike Camelback Mountain
One of the most iconic things to do in Scottsdale AZ is hiking Camelback Mountain. This challenging hike rewards you with panoramic views of Scottsdale, Phoenix, and the surrounding desert. It’s best tackled early in the morning—especially during warmer months.

Tips:
- Bring plenty of water
- Wear sturdy hiking shoes
- Start before sunrise in summer
This hike is perfect for travelers looking for fun activities in Scottsdale AZ that get the heart pumping.
Pinnacle Peak Park
If you’re looking for something slightly less intense, Pinnacle Peak is a great alternative. This scenic trail offers beautiful desert views and a more relaxed pace, making it ideal for anyone wanting outdoor activities in Scottsdale without a strenuous climb.
Hot Air Balloon Ride Over the Sonoran Desert
For a truly unforgettable experience, book a sunrise hot air balloon ride. Floating quietly over the desert as the sun rises is one of the most magical things to do in Scottsdale Arizona.

This is also a beautiful option for couples or anyone celebrating a special occasion.
We had an amazing experience with a hot air balloon ride. It was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it. See Arizona from an entirely new perspective.
If you’re planing to do this ride, I recommend booking in advance – especially during peak season. We used this Get Your Guide tour and loved the experience.
Desert Botanical Garden
Located nearby in Phoenix, the Desert Botanical Garden is well worth the short drive.
The Desert Botanical Gardens are such an unexpected surprise in the middle of the desert. I didn’t realize how large the botanical gardens are and how much there is to see. If you are a bird watcher then you will be in heaven as this is a birding sanctuary.

Walking through the gardens offers a deeper appreciation for the beauty and resilience of desert plants. It’s one of my favorite things to do near Scottsdale AZ when I want something peaceful and grounding.
Relaxation & Wellness: Scottsdale’s Soul-Soothing Side
Scottsdale is known for its world-class spas, making it a dream destination for wellness lovers.

When I think of Scottsdale, I immediately think of three things: desert landscapes (of course), wellness, and incredible spas.
Scottsdale truly knows how to do relaxation right, and during our visit, experiencing the spa culture felt like an essential part of the trip. We made time to visit two beautiful spas, and both were set in stunning, serene desert surroundings that instantly made us feel relaxed and restored.
Our first stop was Revive Spa at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa, a peaceful retreat surrounded by lush grounds and mountain views. The atmosphere felt calm and rejuvenating from the moment we arrived, making it the perfect place to unwind after days spent exploring the desert.

We also visited the Spa at JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa, which felt equally special in its own way. Nestled against the backdrop of Camelback Mountain, this spa offered a truly scenic setting that embodied the essence of Scottsdale wellness—tranquil, grounding, and deeply connected to the natural beauty of the desert.
Both resorts and spas provided a luxurious yet calming experience, and they perfectly captured what makes Scottsdale such a standout destination for wellness-focused travel.
Yoga, Meditation & Sound Healing
Many resorts and local studios offer outdoor yoga, guided meditation, and sound healing experiences. Practicing mindfulness surrounded by the desert landscape adds a grounding element that feels uniquely Scottsdale.
These experiences are perfect for travelers seeking relaxing things to do in Scottsdale Arizona.
Foodie Favorites: Healthy Eats & Scottsdale’s Culinary Scene
One thing that pleasantly surprised me about Scottsdale was the food scene—especially how easy it is to find nourishing, high-quality meals. One thing that we love about traveling is trying all the different cuisine. We had the opportunity to dine at some of the popular and delicious Scottsdale local restaurants.

Farm & Craft
This wellness-focused restaurant quickly became one of my favorites. Farm & Craft emphasizes sustainable ingredients, hormone-free proteins, and balanced meals that actually taste amazing.
If you’re looking for healthy yet indulgent things to do in Scottsdale, brunch here is a must.
FnB Restaurant
FnB is known for showcasing Arizona-grown ingredients and creative seasonal menus. It’s a great place for food lovers who appreciate thoughtful, locally inspired cuisine.
LON’s Restaurant
LON’s at The Hermosa Inn is rated as one of Paradise Valley’s top restaurants. They use the region’s freshest ingredients and prepare them with age-old cooking traditions—roasting, smoking, wood-grilled—combined with cutting-edge trends.

We loved the popular Himalayan Salt Seared Ahi Tuna, served with cilantro, pickled onion, and ceviche sauce. They offer a new Chef’s Tasting Menu each week, and their expert sommelier is always on-hand to recommend the perfect wine pairings.
True Food Kitchen

A go-to spot for anti-inflammatory, plant-forward meals, True Food Kitchen is perfect for travelers prioritizing health while still enjoying flavorful dishes.
Scottsdale Farmers Market
Visiting a farmers market is one of my favorite ways to experience a destination, and Scottsdale’s market does not disappoint. Fresh produce, artisan goods, and local snacks make this a fun and relaxed morning activity.
ZuZu Restaurant

ZuZu restaurant is located in the Hotel Valley Ho. The cuisine you are about to enjoy is dedicated to “ZuZu”, a beloved mother and grandmother as well as a fantastic cook. She believed in the concept that food is better when it’s shared with the people you love.
Citizen Public House

We dined at Citizen Public House, located in Old Town Scottsdale AZ, a short 2-minute drive from our hotel. Citizen Public House is a very popular restaurant, and the most popular dish on their menu is the Chopped Salad of smoked salmon, couscous, arugula, Asiago cheese, currants, pepitas, dried super sweet corn, marinated tomatoes, buttermilk herb dressing.
Exploring Old Town Scottsdale
Old Town Scottsdale is the cultural heart of the city and one of the best areas for Scottsdale sightseeing. With its mix of art galleries, boutiques, museums, and restaurants, it’s easy to spend an entire afternoon wandering.
Highlights include:
- Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art
- Local art galleries
- Unique Southwest-inspired shops
This area is perfect if you’re looking for stuff to do in Scottsdale that doesn’t require a packed schedule.
Romantic & Unique Experiences in Scottsdale
Sunset Horseback Riding
Few experiences feel as “Arizona” as horseback riding through the desert at sunset. This is one of the most romantic things to do in Scottsdale Arizona, especially for couples.
Rooftop Dining & Desert Sunsets
Scottsdale has several rooftop lounges offering mountain views and gorgeous sunsets. It’s the perfect way to unwind after a full day of exploring.
Wine Tasting Near Scottsdale
Arizona’s wine scene continues to grow, and several tasting rooms and wineries near Scottsdale make for a relaxing afternoon activity.
A winery in Arizona? That is exactly what I thought so we had to see it for ourselves. Carlson Creek Vineyard is a family-owned vineyard and winery established in 2009 in Willcox, Arizona and is now the third-largest vineyard in the state.

Day Trips from Scottsdale Worth the Drive
While there are plenty of incredible things to do in Scottsdale, one of the best parts about visiting this area is how close you are to some of Arizona’s most iconic natural landmarks. If you have a few extra days or want to turn your trip into a full Arizona adventure, these day trips are absolutely worth considering.
Horseshoe Bend
Visiting Horseshoe Bend feels like stepping into a postcard. Located near Page, Arizona, this dramatic overlook of the Colorado River is one of the most photographed spots in the state—and for good reason. The sweeping curve of the river against the red rock canyon walls is truly breathtaking in person.

It’s about a 4.5–5 hour drive from Scottsdale, making it a long day trip or an easy overnight add-on. The short hike to the viewpoint is manageable for most fitness levels, and the views are especially beautiful in the early morning or near sunset. If you’re already drawn to desert landscapes and wide-open views, Horseshoe Bend is a must-see while exploring things to do near Scottsdale AZ.
Antelope Canyon
Not far from Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon is another unforgettable Arizona experience. Known for its flowing sandstone walls and beams of light filtering through narrow canyon openings, this slot canyon feels almost otherworldly.

Because Antelope Canyon is located on Navajo land, visits are only allowed through guided tours—and honestly, that makes the experience even better. Learning about the history and cultural significance of the canyon adds depth to the visit and makes it feel more meaningful.
Like Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon is best visited as an overnight trip from Scottsdale or combined with other nearby attractions. If you’re looking to expand your itinerary beyond traditional Scottsdale attractions, this is one of the most awe-inspiring places you can add to your Arizona travel plans.
Tip for Visiting Horseshoe Bend & Antelope Canyon
If you’re short on time or don’t want to drive, guided tours from the Phoenix–Scottsdale area are available and can take care of transportation, timing, and logistics—making it an easy way to experience these iconic destinations without the stress of planning.
Book the exact Horseshoe Bend & Antelope Canyon tour I took here.
Sedona

About two hours north, Sedona is known for its red rock formations and spiritual energy. It’s one of the most popular things to do near Scottsdale AZ and well worth the drive.
Phoenix Attractions
Scottsdale is close to many Phoenix Scottsdale attractions, including museums, botanical gardens, and professional sports venues.
Grand Canyon Experiences

Surrounded by mountains and palm trees, this resort is ideal for travelers who love thoughtful design, laid-back wellness, and an elevated yet approachable Scottsdale stay.
