Authentic Italian Pasta is The Perfect Souvenir From Italy
When in Italy, you will be surrounded by some of the best traditional Italian food that you won’t want to leave without. Italian food makes some of the best gifts from Italy to bring home some delicious memories from your holidays.
When you’re in Italy, you can enjoy so many traditional pasta dishes. Each region is known for a different type of pasta and sauce. In each part of Italy, you will be able to purchase bags of dry pasta and jarred sauce. Before heading from Florence to Pisa don’t forget to pick up some truffle pasta from the market.
If you end up in Rome here are the best places where to eat and drink in Rome.

Formaggio (Cheese)
Formaggio, also known as cheese, is a wonderful Italian souvenir. Like pasta, every region has a different cheese. There are many different varieties of cheese like Pecorino Romano, a Roman sheep milk cheese, and the world-famous Parmigiano Reggiano which will be delicious on that pasta!

Limoncello – The Perfect Souvenir From Italy
This is a yellow-colored liqueur that is made in Southern Italy, with Amalfi lemons and is the perfect ending to a meal. If you are in the Amalfi Coast, limoncello is traditionally served at the end of your meal.
I am a fan of anything lemon, but there is nothing better than taking home the original limoncello. You might want to consider a bottle or two. It is best served in an icy cold glass.
On a recent Norwegian Mediterranean Cruise, we made a trip to the Amalfi Coast and were introduced to Crema di Limoncello that contains milk and cream. It has less alcohol and has a smooth, creamy texture. They have Crema di Limoncello gelato that is to die for. Make sure to buy the local version as some brands may be produced in other regions and are not the real thing.

Olive Oil
Italy has so much great food, so get ready to have a suitcase full of the best Italy has to offer. The olive oil in Italy has a robust olive flavor that is used almost on everything. It tastes a lot better than store-bought olive oil.

Italian Wine – The Ultimate Souvenir From Italy
It doesn’t matter what part of Italy you are visiting, you will always be able to find great wine. We drank our fair share of wine as we ate and drank our way through Italy. When out for dinner, we always ordered the house wine, and it was much better than the most expensive house wine at home. Italy produces some of the best wine in the world.
I don’t think I had to tell you that! Unfortunately, many of these wines are not exported to Canada, or the US so make sure to grab a couple of bottles of your favorite vino. You can wrap the bottles in a padded wine bag, or we pack bottles in our clothes for padding to avoid breakage. Who wouldn’t love a bottle of wine as a souvenir from Italy?
Truffles
Italy is known for its truffles. The best truffles are from Tuscany, Campania, and Lombardia. You can buy various truffle products such as oil, pasta, and honey.
Murano glass – Souvenirs From Italy
Murano glass is handmade in Murano, an island off of Venice. Each Murano handmade item is unique and likely will not find another exactly the same. There are so many different Murano glass items you can buy in Italy. There are cups, lamps, ashtrays, sculptures, key chains, and jewelry. Take extra care when packing your unique Murano gifts as they are incredibly delicate.
They have unique jewelry pieces such as bracelets and earrings that make great gifts. These make one of the best Venice souvenirs. We were in Venice on a Norwegian Greek Isle cruise but did not have enough time to make it out to Murano. You will be able to find Murano glass products everywhere throughout Italy. I picked up Murano glass bracelets and earing at the Venice train station for souvenirs from Italy.
If you are in Venice here are the top Venice Landmarks you should visit.

Porcelain
You’ll see porcelain ceramics, especially dishes, at shops or markets around Italy. Whether it’s a coffee mug or a wine bottle stopper, you’ll have a piece of Italy back home with you in your kitchen. I loved all the ceramic options in Amalfi, Italy. They are the perfect souvenir from Italy.
Italian or European brand name items – Souvenirs From Italy
When visiting Italy, you will be surrounded by Italian and European name brands such as Gucci, Versace, Prada, just to name a few. Generally, the prices will be lower priced in Italy so if you are longing for the high-end bag, now is your chance.
There is a Rome outlet mall for some cheap shopping in Rome, where you may be able to find better prices on the high-end brands. Italian brand names would make the perfect Italian souvenir to take home with you.
Don’t worry, if you didn’t purchase any designer goods you will have another chance at the Rome airport.

Italian Leather
Italy is known for its high-quality leather. You can buy most leather products in markets and stores. I purchased a high-quality leather purse in a market at an extremely affordable price. If you are shopping in the market, try haggling for even a better deal.
Shoes
Italians always have the best shoes! You can also get custom made leather sandals at some Italian markets in the Amalfi Coast. Put your high heels away as walking the cobblestone streets in Italy, you will need either a pair of sandals or sneakers. Italians love their sneakers.

Silk Products
There are many shops in Italy selling beautiful silk Italian scarfs. Buy from a reputable store and make sure they say made in Italy.
Italian perfumes
I love perfume. Italy has its fair share of great Italian perfume brands such as Moschino, Versace, Armani, Gucci and Dolce e Gabbana. If you are traveling carry-on only then try to find the smaller 100ml sizes.
Postcards
The postcards of Italy are beautiful and make a great, cheap souvenir.
Surprise someone by sending a quick note on an Italian postcard to your friends and relatives. Who receives snail mail anymore? They will wish they were there.

Hi, Diana! Thank you for sharing! Wine and food items are on my list, but I’m wondering if you could share any insight on limits or restrictions? I would be crushed to find a note in my bag upon return to US telling me some (or all!) of my purchases weren’t allowed, and thus confiscated!

Hi Carol, I don't think they would confiscate it but would ask you to pay a duty fee. Generally, two 750ml bottles of wine are allowed per adult 21 years or older. This is what I found According to the FAA, it’s all about the alcohol content!
Alcohol less than 24% alcohol by volume (ABV) or 48 proof, like most beers and wine:
For carry-on you are limited to containers of 3.4oz or less that can fit comfortably in one quart-sized, clear, zip-top bag. If it’s overflowing from the bag, that isn’t comfortable. Please remember, one bag per passenger. For checked bags, there is no limit! I wish this was true when I was in college. Alcohol between 24% - 70% ABV (48 – 140 proof):
For carry-on, same rules apply as above. You are limited to containers of 3.4oz or less that fit in your quart-sized bag. For checked bags you are limited to five liters per passenger. However, it must be in unopened retail packaging!

I would love to visit Italy someday! These look like some fabulous souvenirs to take home, especially the food. Although, how heavy is it? Like formaggio?

All the edible souvenirs are delicious. The weight of the cheese depends on how much you take home.
